The arts and creative disciplines offer essential ways of knowing and doing in the context of climate emergency. Showcasing research(ers) engaging with ‘ecological knowing, sensemaking and storytelling’ from across disciplines and colleges at UAL, this event will provide reflection and inspiration about how we can do and develop such research.
Our situated, embodied, multi-sensory and relational ways of knowing can sense and imagine alternative ways of being, living and thriving, including more-than-human interests and planetary health. Desirable futures can be explored and brought closer to our present reality through material, spatial, visual, multi-sensory and communicative practices. In this event, we will share examples and discuss how UAL researchers are developing such essential ways of knowing, sensing and storytelling.
In relation to UAL 2025 Earth Week theme ‘new myths in the making’, we will touch upon some key ideas associated with research (such as originality and new knowledge production), to critically discuss the role of research and knowledge exchange in these ‘wicked’ and ‘post-normal’ times.
